With the travel notes of “Michel Fuchang”, we found on one of the pages the name “Ras Gobi”, so we decided to travel to discover this city that today bears the name of Tarfaya.
During our travel and along the road linking the cities of Tan-Tan and Tarfaya, the sea fascinated us with ancient geological formations dating back eighty million years.
North Tarfaya, a natural pit cylindrical in shape, sinking to about fifty meters.
Dozens of kilometers from Akvnir, Sebkhat Tazgha: a very impressive sight.
Sebkhat Tazgha extends over an area of about 6000 hectares, one third of which was used for salt extraction.
A few kilometers away from the city of Tarfaya and along the coast, there are signs of the greatness and power of the sea: many destroyed boats on the shore… a veritable graveyard of ships.
Upon arriving in Tarfaya, we recall something from the city’s history: after the Scottish engineer “Donald Mackenzie” visited Saguia El Hamra in 1872, he returned to it after seven years to settle there permanently… After his return, he initiated the formation of a center for commercial exchanges and the creation of “the North African Company.”
