To Branco Hondo, this time we went to explore what is believed to be the largest concentration of underground settlements on the island of Gran Canaria.
Of the 21 caves in this region, only one drew attention to the strangeness of its contents. Its mention was associated with spirituality, and sometimes with natural phenomena.
On our way many questions accompanied us: Why did the first inhabitants choose these places so deep in Gran Canaria? Is it because of the water resources available at the time and its dense vegetation? Or because of the ruggedness of the place, which formed an impenetrable fortress against any invasion? Or because of the ease of digging caves with a fragile volcanic tuff?
The great awareness of the Canaries and their awareness of the historical value of these caves makes them do not hesitate to think of anything that will enhance this status and contribute to the definition of their culture.
The episode includes interrogations:
Julio Cuenca: Archaeologist
Roman Souza: Professor and community activist
Julio Cubas: inhabitant of the caves
Pedro Josi: Professor and community activist
