ELEANOR MOGADOR

Mogador is the only archipelago on the Moroccan coast in the North Atlantic.

An archipelago, about 900 meters from the port of Essaouira, made up of islands of varying sizes, which are considered the first nucleus of the city of Essaouira.

The episode is a narration of the most important events of the archipelago since the last century BC until the present times, the years of its protection and its classification as a biological and ecological site.

Today's Mogador, home to many migratory and sedentary birds, the Eleonor's hawk is one of them.

In its session held in France in October of 2009, the discussions that took place between the French and Moroccan authorities reinforced the idea of cooperation to preserve the Essaouira archipelago and its integration into the small Mediterranean islands.

Convinced that this archipelago - despite being Atlantic - presents ecosystems and animal species of Mediterranean and global importance, such as the Eleonor Falcons, the High Commissioner for Water, Forests and Combating Desertification expressed its interest in contributing and exchanging experiences for a better management of the archipelago.

Therefore, it mobilized a group of experts and their mission to carry out an ecological diagnosis and to conduct field visits to the archipelago in order to update the data of these birds that are nesting in the archipelago and wintering on the island of Madagascar.
