The city takes a middle position between the cities of Safi and Agadir and opens to the Atlantic Ocean, the source of its wealth and the reason for its existence. The site of Essaouira, which dates back to ancient times, is a unique site in the coastal region, characterized by a depression and the emergence of a rocky beach formed by ancient hardened dunes.

The people of Essaouira today see that the city is in a dying state, due to the negative changes that it has witnessed that have destroyed its beauty. The random extension of construction outside the walls, the obliteration of cemeteries without respect for the ancestors, the elimination of green spaces, and the irregular overlap of neighborhoods among them, all contributed to transforming the city into an uncoordinated, chaotic space.
