Here it is, the Atlas Mountains, on the verge of revealing yet another surprise, and we may be its first witnesses.
In 2021, we had the opportunity to meet Mr. Moha Orhou in the village of Agdou, where he confirmed a direct sighting of an Atlas lion, in broad daylight.
Less than a year later, we met Mrs. Hanno OuAli, who recounted her story of fleeing from what she believed to be a lion.
There is a striking connection between the accounts of Moha Orhou and Mrs. Hanno: the proximity of their lion sightings, both in location and time. This has led us to strongly believe that our elusive target is still alive somewhere within this rugged terrain. To capture definitive images of it, we needed to devise effective strategies to draw it out before our cameras.
To achieve this goal, we considered searching for predator droppings and scattering them throughout the forest to lure the lion before more than 60 hidden cameras—a tremendous number we have never deployed before.
